IOMP Secretary General (SG) Message

Magdalena Stoeva, PhD
Secretary General of IOMP

IMPW, IOMP Strategic Plan, IDMP, ICTP, Regional Organizations, In Memoriam

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

I have the pleasure to welcome you to the April 2026 issues of the IOMP newsletter and serve as your guide throughout the wide range of activities from IOMP and our partners.

April has been a great month for medical physics during the recent years. This April we mark three significant milestones – 7 years from the first issue of the IOMP Newsletter, 6 years from the first IOMP webinar and 6 years from the announcement of the International Medical Physics Week (IMPW).

The International Medical Physics Week (IMPW) which is just a week away (20-24 April 2026) is dedicated to Sustainability in Healthcare, and I have the pleasure to announce that all the five webinars are now CPD/CME certified and each IMPW webinar carries 1 CPD/CME point for all who attended in full.

In accordance with IOMP’s mission and objectives please refer to the IOMP Strategic Plan for IOMP’s long term strategy and priorities, and stay tuned to the IOMP website and social media for latest info on various activities including but not limited to IDMP 2026, ICTP Master of Advanced Studies, ICTP events, and AAPM Publication.

I would like to dedicate my message to the collaboration. IOMP’s outreach and success cannot be as efficient as they are without the global network of individual medical physicists, National Member Organizations and Regional Organizations who actively work together with IOMP for the global success of our profession. This huge professional network currently presents over 30,000 medical physicists, 90 national organizations, 2 affiliate organizations and 6 regional organizations. With this brief introduction I would like to draw your attention to the role and activities of the IOMP Regional Organizations.

Unfortunately, this issue of the IOMP newsletter also carries a sad demise – a great loss for our profession. Bill Hendee, IOMP’s Fellow and Harold Johns medal awardee, one of the giants in Medical Physics has left this world, but his work and contributions will forever remain a gold standard in Medical Physics.

Allow me to end my message with a quotation from Bill Hendee’s interview for AAPM History: “The most important thing I do is helping people I work with accomplish their job, because if I do that, I do my job and work is done right.” Let us all embrace Bill’s spirit of collaboration and work together for the benefit of our profession.

Sincerely,

Magdalena Stoeva
Secretary General of IOMP
