IOMP Vice President’s Message

M Mahesh, PhD
Vice President, IOMP

eMPW, MPI, IMPW 2026, IOMP School Webinars, IAEA X ray Vision Conference
Dear Colleagues and Friends,
It gives me great pleasure to welcome all of you to the first issue of 2026 of the IOMP Newsletter. The IOMP newsletter are published bi-monthly and is a vehicle to provide updates on activities of IOMP and about other topics relevant to medical physics.
I like to welcome all of you to read the e-Medical Physics World (eMPW) issue published twice in a year. The latest eMPW issue has reports from all the new IOMP officers (2025-2028 term) along with the names of new committee members who will be serving on various committees, also included in the issue are the reports from IOMP regional organizations.
In addition, I welcome you to peruse the newly published issue of Medical Physics International (MPI) journal. The latest issue has several papers on Educational and Professional topics in addition to several ‘Invited Papers’ and ‘How-To’ articles discussing practical aspects of medical physics practice.
The International Medical Physics Week (IMPW) is a global event that celebrates the work of medical physicists and highlights the importance of medical physics in improving patient care. This year IOMP has decided to celebrate the IMPW 2026 (20-24 April 2026) with the following theme: Sustainability in Healthcare: The Medical Physics Contribution. Several of us in charge of organizing and moderating the weeklong webinars are finalizing the program and will be available on the IOMP website.
As mentioned in the previous newsletter, IOMP officers had a strong presence and active participation at the IAEA “X Ray Vision” meeting in Vienna during December 2025 (see photo). The weeklong conference had single track sessions with all participants joining the discussion on various aspects of radiation protection in medicine and on the impact of the decade-long Bonn Call for Action. Strong presence and involvement of several IOMP officers demonstrates IOMP’s continuing commitment to supporting global initiatives in radiation safety, innovation in imaging and therapy, and cross-disciplinary dialogue.
Finally, I like to share with you about the IOMP School webinars. The week-long IOMP school organized during the World Congress on Medical Physics, in Adelaide, Australia was well received. Continuing the success and demand for the advanced topics in medical physics, the IOMP is now planning to organize series of IOMP School Webinars this year. In fact, one of the topics covered in the IOMP school at World Congress is repeated as the IOMP Webinar topics in February 2026. (IOMP Webinar on Basics of Theranostics). In case if anyone is unable to attend our webinars live, they can always view them on our website as all webinars are recorded for consumption anytime.
I like to thank my fellow IOMP Officers for their enthusiasm and constructive discussions during our meetings. I also wish all the readers, a Happy Spring (for those residing on Northern Hemisphere) and pleasant Fall (for those in the Southern Hemisphere) and look forward to hearing from you.
Finally, I like to end this message with the following quote from Aristotle: “We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, then, is not an act, but a habit.”
Sincerely,
Mahesh
Vice President of IOMP
