IOMP Elections

The upcoming IOMP elections are a very critical time for our international medical physics community https://www.iomp.org/election-of-officers-chairs-2025-2028-invitation-to-nominate/ The election of the IOMP Executive Committee is a very significant event, as it will determine the leadership that will guide our global organization in the next term. Being on the Executive Committee is a major responsibility to advance the field of medical physics and to the scientific, educational, and professional growth of our members across the world.

This election cycle is set to be hotly contested, reflecting the surge in interest and involvement across the IOMP member organizations. The Nominating Committee (NC) of the IOMP has carefully reviewed all nominations and acknowledges that all candidates are in good standing and demonstrate strong professional competence. In the spirit of fairness and open-mindedness, the NC has decided not to reject any of the candidates at this stage, allowing all nominees an opportunity to proceed to the formal ballot.

Ballot papers will shortly be distributed to members of Council. We urge all members of Council to take part actively in the election process. Your vote will decide the future of IOMP and ensure that the organization will continue to prosper under dynamic and visionary leadership.

Whether recognizing lifetime achievements, early career accomplishments, educational impact, or regional contributions, the IOMP awards underscore the diversity, dedication, and depth of talent within our field.

The IOMP awards motivate medical physicists at every stage of their career to push the boundaries of knowledge and clinical practice. They also play a vital role in raising public and professional awareness of the essential role medical physicists play in modern healthcare.

The deadline was very recently extended to give the opportunity to colleagues across all regions to nominate deserving candidates and help ensure that contributions to medical physics, whether in research, clinical service, education, or leadership, receive the recognition they deserve. Let us celebrate the people who are shaping the future of our profession!

IDMP 2025 theme

The International Day of Medical Physics (IDMP) 2025 theme is: “Medical Physics and Emerging Technologies: Shaping the Next Decade.” The theme underlines the transformative contribution of medical physicists at the intersection of science, technology, and health innovation.

From artificial intelligence and high-resolution imaging to custom treatment planning, new technologies are revolutionizing the practice of medicine. Medical physicists aren’t just keeping up with these advances. They are driving them, ensuring innovations are safely, effectively, and ethically incorporated for patients around the world.

As we enter a new decade of increasing technological advancement, the role of medical physics is more critical than ever. We are particularly positioned to take advanced technologies and bring them within reach as useful solutions for improving diagnosis, guiding therapies, and maximizing patient outcomes.

This year’s theme is an appeal to action: accept innovation, invest in education, encourage interdisciplinary collaboration, and prepare the next generation of medical physicists to lead in a technology-enabled healthcare era.
