CEAB Operations Manual, Modification to the policy on Scientific, Educational and Professional Meetings, Endorsement of events

Dear Colleagues,

An operational manual holds significant importance for an accreditation board as it serves as a comprehensive guide for the board’s operations and procedures. It outlines the policies, protocols, and standards that govern the board’s activities, ensuring consistency, fairness, and transparency in their accreditation processes. The Quality Manual of the Continuous Education Accreditation Board (CEAB) of IOMP prepared by the CEAB team was shared with IOMP ExCom members for comments and endorsement. The terms of reference and other related procedures are presented in this document. I would like to remind you that the scope of CEAB, established in 2022, is to accredit and allocate Continuous Education (CE) credit points for a range of IOMP educational events including workshops, schools and webinars. The CEAB of IOMP is not responsible for accreditation of educational events external to IOMP. The process operates under the general auspices of IOMP. To avoid conflict of interest, CEAB operates independently of the IOMP organization, with careful attention to real or perceived conflict. I take this opportunity to heartily thank Prof. Natalka Suchowerska, the Secretary General, all members of the Board and the panel of assessors for their invaluable support and cooperation.

The IOMP Rules committee has put forward a proposed modification to the IOMP Policy on Scientific, Educational and Professional Meetings. This pertains specifically to item 3 of the IOMP Sponsored Events section. According to item 3, event sponsorship applications must be submitted 6 months prior to the event’s date. To facilitate the process, we decided to reduce the required time for submitting sponsorship applications. The following change was proposed and endorsed by the IOMP ExCom:

  1. The IOMP Executive Committee must approve event six months in advance of presentation date to allow advertising to National Members and Regional Chapters to promote fruitful international cooperation.

IOMP sponsors or endorses Congresses, workshops, summer schools and other events organized by its national and/or regional members. IOMP has recently endorsed the 12th National Congress of the Italian Society (AIFM), Florence, 8-11 June 2023. Moreover, we endorsed the Summer School in Medical Physics 2023 in Chile: The role of imaging in the radiotherapy process, October 16 – December 15, 2023.
