IOMP Committee 2025-2028, IAEA X Ray Vision Conference, Radiation Protection in Medicine, Happy Holiday Season
Dear Colleagues and Friends,
It is my pleasure to greet our global medical physics community in this edition of the IOMP Newsletter. IOMP Committee chairs have been engaging with the Regional and National Member Organizations to finalize membership of the IOMP committees for term 2025-2028. All committees work to enhance our work in education, science, professional development, clinical practice, and international collaboration. These committees will bring fresh perspectives and renewed energy to IOMP’s vision and activities. The full list of committees and their memberships will be announced shortly in the upcoming eMPW newsletter, and I encourage all members to stay connected as these groups begin their important work.
I also wish to highlight the active participation of several Executive Committee members at the recent IAEA “X Ray Vision” meeting in Vienna, aimed at discussions on radiation protection of patients and staff in various diagnostic and therapeutic modalities and in interventional procedures (see an update further in the newsletter). Our involvement demonstrates IOMP’s continuing commitment to supporting global initiatives in radiation safety, innovation in imaging and therapy, and cross-disciplinary dialogue.
Looking ahead, IOMP is placing particular emphasis on the priorities that will shape radiation protection in medicine for the coming decade. These include maintaining the safety of patients, their family members, and staff; addressing patients’ concerns with clarity and compassion; and understanding the implications of artificial intelligence for radiation safety, including accelerated shielding calculations, dose predictions, data storage, and data privacy. We will also focus (among many others) on advancing radiation safety in targeted radionuclide therapies through improved radio-pharmacokinetic models, whole-body PET imaging, and refined bone-marrow dosimetry in targeted alpha therapies. Additionally, we aim to contribute to a deeper understanding of radiation biology in hadron therapy and FLASH, promote MRI safety—particularly for high-Tesla systems—and support initiatives that improve global health equity and sustainability.
Finally, as we approach the end of the year, I extend my warmest wishes to all members of our community. May you enjoy a safe and happy holiday season, and may the year 2026 bring good health, fulfillment, and continued professional growth. Hoping to see you at our next webinar held on 17 December.
Warm regards,
Eva Bezak
